The Power of Evil
Evil. That intangible force that is so present in our world, and many other worlds, for that matter. And now I ask an age old question. Is evil stronger? In the world we live in, and in the world of Earthbound? If it is, what is it that makes good triumph?
Earthbound is a very good example of the conflict between good and evil. The game is obviously based on it. A quick look over the game will show that evil is apparently stronger. The incredible power of Giygas and his followers is contested only by four preteen children, and a small group of other people. It would only make sense if Giygas instantly crushed the frail line holding humanity above the pit of extinction at the hands of an invader. But for some odd reason, this does not happen. Why?
The reason has two parts. The first is the fact that good is a persistent thing, constantly hassling evil. The second is one that is never seen, a powerful force outside our plain of exsistence. No one can doubt that, if Paula had not prayed at the end of the game, humanity would have been wiped out by Giygas. Her prayers reached the ears of friends and family, but who did THEY pray to? Who did the player pray to? The strength of evil is a visible, intimidating thing, but the strength of good is based around the soul.
